Avalokiteswora
Avalokiteswora is the word composed of different work composition of shanskrit words which means the lord who gazes down towards the world of creatures. Also means the lord, ruler, sovereign, or master, who notice, who behold, who observe or in an essence the king of the world sovereignty. In Nepal, Avalokiteswora is worshipped as a god of compassion with eleven heads and thousands arms god as well as he is attributed with other characters such as great loving kindness, lion courage, universal light, leader amongst gods and men, the great omnipresent etc. each of this bodhisattvas six qualities of pity breaks the hindrances respectively of the 6 realms, they are hells, pretas, hungry ghosts, animals, demi gods, men and gods.
According the Nepalese version Avalokiteswara is the bodhisattva who has made a great vow to listen to the prayers of all sentient beins in times of difficulty, and to postpone his own buddhahood until he has assisted every being on earth achieving nrrvana. Mahayana sutras associated with Avalokitesvara include the heart sutra disciple of the historical Buddha. The great prayers of buddhists which is popularly chanted is attributed to him as “ om mani padme hum” the chanting of 4 syllable which is a sacred verse.
Avalokiteswora has got 1000 arms and eleven heads which has different views about the multiplication of body. One popular buddhist story tells that after vowing to never rest until he had freed all sentient beings from samsara, he would not like to take a rest. Despite strenuous effort, he realizes that still many unhappy beings were yet to be saved. After struggling to comprehend the needs of so many, his head splits into eleven pieces and hands into 1000. Amitava Buddha, seeing his eleven heads and 22 arms gives the power to hear the cries of suffering and in order to solve the problems of creatures he offers the 1000 arms to him to uplift all sentient beings from struggle aand bring to the heavenly world. Out of 1000 arms, eight of them are implemented to uphold the dharma of peace, mercy, righteousness, good karma, etc. Avalokiteswora is an important deity in Tibetan Buddhism, and is regarded in the vajrayana teachings as a Buddha. In the Mahayana teachings, he is in general regarded as a high level buddhisattva. Dalai lama is considered as a earthly manifestation of him according to the gelugpa sect. it is believed that he has a great task of caring the Tibetan people and its territory by taking the manifestation of tulkus. Tara came is manifested by the tear of Avalokiteswora. In Nepal ana Tibet Avalokiteswora is depicted in Thanka, walpaintings, and even in the sacred room of all Buddhists devoties.
