About the end of the 6th century AD, there were savages and cannibals, without a written language who were followers of an animistic and devil dancing cult or shamanist religion called the Bon. It includes several aboriginal ideas and resembles in many ways with the Taoism. This religion was widespread in Tibet when the superstition was much influencing element in the than society. It is said that the Guru Padmasambhava, the Guru Rimboche, who was responsible for every bodys deliverance from terrible torments conquered all the chief devils of Tibet and introduced the Buddhism in 7th century. He arrived with hardship from India passing the different caves of Nepal with meditation and displaying the magical and spiritual power, via Himalaya and introduced the new culture and new ideas through his spiritual treasure and books. Bon religion was the mainspring of shamanistic faith. According to the Bon tradition, there was a pure bright light which froze into the cosmic egg. The egg cracked and out of it came the primordial man. Sitting on a golden throne which lay at a point in the middle of a vast ocean, he gave light to the universe.

This religion still exists in Nepal and Tibet as well as in the northern Bhutan and Ladak area of India. In Nepal, the mustang, Dolpo, and upper Manang area is found with Bonpos. The priest of Black Bon or pon called Black hats are sorcerers and are greatly feared by common people. White Bons are much similar to Buddhist deities.
