Trip overview
Gokyo Cho la Pass trekking is one of the most popular and challenging trekking trails in the Everest region and one of Nepal's most famous treks to the Khumbu Mountains & Sherpa country. This journey starts with an “eye opening” flight from Kathmandu to Lukla. From Lukla, the trail twists up and down through the prosperous Sherpa hubs like Namche, Thame, Khumjung, Phortse and Dhole to Gokyo Lake at 4790m. Views of western shoulder of Mt. Everest, Lotse Nuptse and far away Makalu are excellent from Gokyo Ri (5483 m.). Then crossing over Cho La Pass (5667 m.), the trail heads up to Kalapatthar at 5545 m. Most popular pictures of Everest have been taken from atop this “bump” on the landscape. Our return route passes through Tengboche, a magnificent location with a fascinating monastery, where we rest and savor the incredible scenery, including magnificent views of Everest, Ama Dablam (6856m), Kantega (6809m), Kwangde (6194m), Nuptse (7879m), Lhotse (8511m) and many more trekking peaks of Khumbu Himalaya range.

Day 04: Trek to Namche Bazar (3440m) 6 hours
The trail continues north up the Dudh Kosi valley with brilliant views of Thamserku & Kusum kangraru to the Munzo. Just beyond the Munzo you will see the huge building of Sagarmatha National Park Entrance Gate, where trekking permits are checked and National Park fees collected, then trek down and cross the Jorsale Bridge. This is the last stop before Namche Bazar . The trail continues along the Dudh Kosi River and after two more brides begins the steep climb up to Namche Bazaar, the administrative center of National Park and the hub of Sherpa society.
Day 05: Acclimatization at Namche Bazaar, hike to Everest view hotel (3900m) 3-4 hours.
This is a day for acclimatization, we will hike Shyangbuche airport 3700m, one of the highest airports in the world. Then continue climbing to Mt. Everest view hotel where we have great panoramic views of Everest, Lhotse, Amadablam, Tawache etc. On the way back after lunch or before lunch we will have enough time to visit Sherpa culture museum and Everest photo Gallery.
Day 06: Trek to Dole (4200m) 5 Hrs.
The trail is easy in the beginning up to Kyangjuma and then climbs steeply out of the valley through rhododendron forests, which gives way to fragrant stands of juniper and large conifers as the elevation increases. This trek is especially beautiful in spring when the rhododendrons are blooming. The trails pass many Kharkas, summer settlements used when Sherpas bring herds of yaks to graze in these high pastures. The route passes through the settlements of Tongba (3950m) and Gyele (3960m) to Dole where there're few hotels. The views of Khumbila and Tawache (6542m) are incredible throughout the day!
Day 07: Trek to Machhermo (4400m) 5 Hrs.
The trail climbs to Lambara at (4220m) and Luza at (4360m). The trail is steep in most places as it climbs through brush junipers. There're Kharkas whenever there is a flat spot and the slightest hint of water. The trails continue to climb along the side of the valley, high above the river, crossing sandy spurs to Machhermo at (4410m). Here, in Machhermo in 1974, a Yeti killed three yaks and attacked a Sherpa woman. This is the most reported Yeti incident to date.
Day 08: Trek to Gokyo Lake (4700m) 4 Hrs.
We climb a ridge for an excellent view both down the valley to Kantega and up towards Cho-Oyu (8201m). Beyond the ridge the valley widens as the trail passes through Pangka at (4390m) then descends to the riverbank before beginning to climb on to the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier. It's a steep climb up the moraine, switch backing alongside the stream to the first small Lake at (4650m), where a family of green Brainy ducks reside. The trail now becomes almost level at (4690m).
Day 09: Hike to Gokyo RI (5360m) 4 Hrs.
Early wake up and Hike to the Gokyo-Ri, for panoramic view of Mahalangur Himalayan range, it takes approximately 2hrs Hike to the top of the peak, providing a panoramic view of Cho-Oyu, Gyachung Kang, Everest, Lhotse, Makalu, Cholatse and Tawache & a great spectacle of Ngozumpa glacier, the largest glacier in Nepal. Then decend to Gokyo and relax with your Lunch & hot tea.

Day 11: Trek to Dzongla (4830m) via Chola pass (5360m) 7 Hrs.
Before crossing the Chola pass, about three hundred meters are very difficult.Without an experienced guide, one is likely to get lost around these parts. After breakfast, the trail heads gradually uphill until an elevation of 5000m. This is a great view point of Chola pass & several peaksfrom where the trail will descend to the Chola pass base camp at 4800m. From here you will find the journey difficult due to rocks, that command respect and care. The trail continues to the top of Chola the pass from where it will descend all the way down to Dzongla.
