| Dolpo Trekking |
 |
Sandwiched
between the Tibetan border and the.Himalayan massifs of Kanjiroba
and Dhaulagiri, the remote and sparsely populated district
of Dolpo can boast some of the best trekking in Nepal. The
region is inhabited by the Dolpo-pa, a hardy Buddhist people
of Tibetan origin, whose network of trading routes, linking
together the high valleys, forms the basis of our trek. From
Jumla in the far west, we start out through picturesque wooded
farmland and alpine foothills to reach the Kagmara La (5100m./16725ft.).
Above this pass, the viewpoint of Kagmara Ri (5350m./17545ft.)
offers a wonderful prospect of Dhaulagiri and the Annapurna
peaks. Descending to the truly spectacular, cobalt-blue Ringmo
ake, we then set out on the high and wild crossing of the
Baga La (5200m./17050ft.) and Num La (5350m./17545ft.) to
reach the isolated villages in the lovely Tarap Valley. A
descent of the rugged Tarap Gorge to the airstrip at Juphal
completes this unforgettable journey.
