Meditation:

This is a vehicle which takes us into the inner tour, is called in Sanskrit as Dhyana which means the concentration of the mind upon a single thought. The followers of all the religions aim at attaining meditation or transcendence or self realization. All the religions basically devotional faiths and aim at attaining oneness with the personal form of God. In this endeavor prayers, hymns, rituals, meditation etc are resorted to for purifying and concentrating the mind so that transcendental experiences can be introduced. The meaning of yoga is to unite, it is a path and practice by which the individual soul unites with the universal. Yoga sometime is explained as a physical exercise but in the real sense of the term it involves both intellectual and moral exercise. There are different kinds of yogas mentioned and practiced by yogis and they are, Raja yoga, Bhkti yoga, Karma yoga, Jnana yoga, Tantric yoga, Hata yoga, mantra yoga, Tantra yoga etc. It is believed that 95% our mental faculties and energies remain unused which to be utilized for exploration of the largely unknown realms of mind. The western psychology says that the unknown part of the mind known as subconscious or unconscious while the known part called conscious. By following the spiritual path, one is able to get into the unknown realms. The exploration of these subtle layers of the mind leeds to expansion of consciousness.

There is a need of individual effort to change the minds. Most of our thinking and reactions in life operate on an instinctive level in which we respond in a fixed ways to different life situation and these do not fit in with the thought pattern which makes us unhappy, distressed. This is the obstacle in mind and life to go forward so we need to practice meditation which keeps all imbalance in balance and makes relief from distress and unhappiness. Yoga and meditation do not oppose religious or philosophical belief or nonbeliefs, on the contrary, yoga and meditation makes an individual a more active and better practitioner in his or her way of life. Meditation is not only one or two days, this is the practice of lifetime to gather and harvest the fruit of it. The best time to do meditation is early in the morning or in a time when the mental as well as physical state in rest. To calm down the mind and stress, meditation is a kind of medicine which is produced within.
